You
walked in, looked around and probably said, " wow".
So many faces and they even look familiar! Yes, you are
right, they are friends and models of Modigliani, and one
of them is even him. Let me tell you how this came about.
While designing this coffee shop I wanted this place to
be associated with love and passion. Therefore I decided
to tell a story of a romantic couple and my choice was of
Amedeo Modigliani and Jeanne Hébuterne. Their love was one
of the most tragic and heart breaking, the story which became
a Parisian legend.
I filled the café with Modigliani's friends and models,
people he knew. I painted them on the backs of the chairs,
so they can be together and chit-chat especially at night
when no one sits on them.

I
wanted you to stop and recall this artist, maybe read more
about him and his fascinating art and life and his unusual
friends.
I wanted to pay tribute to him, to good people like Zborowski
and to the love vanished by death.
This project brought me as much joy as torment as I thought
not just about Modigliani and his contemporaries but artists'
struggles in general.
This job was quite different, because I not only designed
the space but built all the furniture, and painted walls,
chairs and paintings. My insubordinate husband gave me a
hand a few times in installing the heavy pieces.
